Tamang heritage trekking trail in Langtang region lies north to the capital city Kathmandu. The trekking route offers the outstanding view of the Himalayas and chance to explore the lifestyle of the Tamang people of the region. Tamangs are the mountain inhabitants residing adjacent to the Langtang range. Tamangs are among the oldest tribes in the mountains of Nepal. Initially, Tamangs were the Tibetan traders who used to trade horse, salt and meat from the Nepal- Tibet border. Later they migrated and settled in the Langtang region of Nepal as Tamangs. The influence of Tibetan culture in their lifestyle can still be noticed. The unspoiled vicinity of the Tamang villages still reflects their ancient culture. The area had prohibitions in explorations due to its closeness to the Tibetan border and is opened now with a goal of sustainable economical progress of the region with the help of tourism.

Apart from the flawless culture and lifestyle of Tamang people, the trekking trail is highlighted with the unique beauty of nature. The heritage trekking route lies in between the Langtang and Ganesh Himal range and offers immaculate sight of Langtang Lirung, Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Paldor peak, Saljung Himal and Manaslu Massif. Tamang heritatage trekking route is decorated with beautiful rhododendron forest, villages, monasteries, lakes, gompas, river, natural hot spring and snowcapped mountains. Beautiful and culturally rich villages like Gatlang, Thuman, Briddim, Thyangsyap etc are explored along the Tamang heritage trekking. The natural hot spring at Tatopani is believed to be the healer for different physical sufferings. The Tamang heritage trekking is designated to explore the Tamang lifestyle and operate trekking in the Langtang region through beautiful terraced farms, alpine terrains and horizontal grasslands. The trekking route is different for having social and cultural significance rather than just ordinary trekking experience. 


Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01:Arrival at Kathmandu (1350m).

Day 02:Kathmandu Sightseeing tour and trekking preparation.

Day 03:Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi (1460m). About 8 hours of Drive.

Day 04:Trekking from Syabrubeshi to Gatlang (2250m). About 5-6 hours of trekking.

Day 05:Gatlang to Tatopani (2610m). About 6-7 hours of trekking.

Day 06:Trekking from Tatopani to Thuman (2400m). About 7 hours of trekking.

Day 07:Trekking from Thuman to Briddim (2350m). About 4-5 hours of trekking.

Day 08:Trekking from Briddim to Lama Hotel (2450m). About 6-7 hours of trekking.

Day 09:Trekking from Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3400m). About 6 hours of trekking.

Day 10:Trekking from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gumba (3850m). About 5-6 hours of trekking.

Day 11:Trekking from Kyanjin Gumba to Lama Hotel. About 5 hours of trekking.

Day 12:Trekking from Lama Hotel to Syabrubeshi. About 5 hours of trekking.

Day 13:Drive back to Kathmandu and farewell dinner.

Day 14:Departure.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival at Kathmandu (1350m).Upon your arrival at the international Airport at Kathmandu, our representative would pick you up and transfer to a hotel. A short briefing about the next day activities is provided and stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 02Kathmandu Sightseeing tour and trekking preparation.After breakfast you are guided out for the sightseeing tour of different UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. We visit different culturally significant locations such as Boudhhanath, Swayambhunath, Kathmandu durbar square and Pashupatinath. We prepare for trekking and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi (1460m). About 8 hours of Drive.Early morning, after the breakfast we drive towards Syabrubeshi from Kathmandu. The journey is 8-9 hours long with circuitous road. The scenic drive offers beautiful glances of Manaslu, Ganesh, Annapurna and peaks of Langtang ranges on a fair day. We arrive at Syabrubeshi passing through hills, rivers, meadows, waterfalls and villages. We stay overnight at Syabrubeshi which is also the starting point of Tamang Heritage trekking trail.

Day 04Trekking from Syabrubeshi to Gatlang (2250m). About 5-6 hours of trekking.We start our trekking from Syabrubeshi ascending towards a view point. The couple of hours of uphill walk lead us to the viewpoint which offers magnificent sight of Goljang valley surrounded by beautiful Himalayas. We descend downhill and hike through Goljang village. We finally arrive at beautiful Tamanng inhabiting village Gatlang after 3-4 hours of hike from the viewpoint. We stay overnight at a local tea house at Gatlang.

Day 05Gatlang to Tatopani (2610m). About 6-7 hours of trekking.Trekking begins with downhill walk towards Thangbuche. With the pleasant sight of river, dam and Himalayas like Langtang and Ganesh we reach Chilime village. Chilime village is famous for having a hydro power dam that produces hydro electricity. We cross a suspension bridge over a river and start uphill climb towards Gongang. After Gongang we descend for couple of hours to reach Tatopani. Tatopani (Tato- Hot, Pani- Water) is popular for having a natural hot spring which is non functional after the devastating earthquake on April 2015. We stay overnight at a lodge in Tatopani.

Day 06Trekking from Tatopani to Thuman (2400m). About 7 hours of trekking.We start the long trekking day hiking up to Nagthali. The beautiful forest with moss covered trees and the flat grasslands along the trail offers pleasurable view. Passing through delightful Brimdang village with Tamang settlement we ascend further towards Nagthali. Nagthali offers heavenly view of Langtang, Kerung, Shishapangma and Ganesh Himal range. Next we descend towards the Tamang village at Thuman and stay overnight at alocal tea house after arrival.

Day 07Trekking from Thuman to Briddim (2350m). About 4-5 hours of trekking.We trek through beautiful forest and grassland to arrive at beautiful Briddim village. Briddim is a Tamang village influenced by Tibetan Buddhism located in the lap of Langtang Himal. Briddim village is Z shaped villages with over forty stone built houses. Briddim is popular village with friendly people and we stay overnight at a local tea house.

Day 08Trekking from Briddim to Lama Hotel (2450m). About 6-7 hours of trekking.We begin today’s trekking descending towards a small river ‘Ghopche Khola’. The trail continues through the village of Khangjim and Sherpagaon. We ascend further passing through Rimche to arrive at Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel is surrounded by beautiful green hills and snow capped mountains with Langtang River flowing beside it. We stay overnight at Lama Hotel.

Day 09Trekking from Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3400m). About 6 hours of trekking.We begin the trekking towards Langtang village after the breakfast. The trekking trail passes through the green and thick forest of Langtang national park. After crossing the forest we pass through several chortens, prayer wheels and have beautiful sight of Himalayan ranges. We stay overnight at the village upon our arrival.

Day 10Trekking from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gumba (3850m). About 5-6 hours of trekking.Today we walk through several wooden bridges, passing through prayer flags and stone inscriptions. We can see different Tamang and Sherpa inhabitants, birds and yaks on the trekking trail. We finally reach Kyanjin gumba after 5 hours of trekking. Kyanjin gumba is a Buddhist spiritual site surrounded by mountain ranges. We explore the Gumba and stay overnight at a teahouse in Kyanjin village.

Day 11Trekking from Kyanjin Gumba to Lama Hotel. About 5 hours of trekking.After the breakfast we descend towards Lama Hotel. Passing through different Tamang settlements, river and forest we arrive at Lama Hotel after 5 hours of downhill walk. We stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

Day 12Trekking from Lama Hotel to Syabrubeshi. About 5 hours of trekking.We start today’s easy trekking after the morning breakfast. We pass through beautiful vegetation of pine trees and grasslands. We cross suspension bridge over Trishuli River and arrive Syabrubeshi after 4-5 hours of trekking. We enjoy our last trekking day at Syabrubeshi and stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

Day 13Drive back to Kathmandu and farewell dinner.After the breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu through the same route. We drive through winding roads passing through different locations on the way. We arrive at Kathmandu after 8 hours of drive and move into the hotel. We enjoy traditional Nepali dance at a restaurant while having the farewell dinner offered by Lovely Nepal Tours and Travel as a gesture of gratitude. We stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 14Departure.Thank you for performing Tamang Heritage trekking in Nepal with Lovely Nepal Tours and Travel. Our representative will drop you to the airport for your final departure to the future destination.
